Our Faculty's Clinical Skills Laboratory located in the Animal Hospital, EAEVE (ESEVT Standards) and VEDEK Accreditation Criteria aims to provide a contemporary educational infrastructure that enables students to acquire essential clinical and interventional skills defined within the scope of Day-One Competences, with minimal or no use of live animals.

The clinical skills laboratory is designed with an approach prioritizing student safety and animal welfare, consisting of simulation and model-based stations that support the development of manual skills, decision-making, and clinical awareness before transitioning to clinical practices.

1. Small Animal Clinical Skills Stations

In the application stations developed for cats and dogs;

  • Intravenous catheterization
  • Intramuscular injection applications
  • Endotracheal intubation
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Restraint and patient safety techniques

students are provided with a controlled and repeatable learning environment. These stations are directly compatible with EAEVE’s pre-clinical skill acquisition and patient safety principles.

2. Large Animal Clinical Skills Stations

Within the scope of applications for large animal medicine;

  • For Horses: intravenous and intramuscular injection, nasogastric tube applications, and restraint techniques
  • For Cattle: intravenous and intramuscular injection, rumen tube applications, pregnancy examinations, dystocia simulations, cervical catheterization, and restraint applications
  • For Pigs: intramuscular injection, intrauterine catheterization, and restraint models

are available, and these stations are structured to consider species-specific anatomical, physiological, and behavioral differences.

3. Basic Clinical and Surgical Skills Stations

To provide common clinical competencies for all animal species;

  • Preparing injections from ampoules and vials
  • Surgical suture practice pads
  • 3D printed anatomical models of limb bones
  • Hands-on training with inhalation anesthesia devices
  • Surgical hand washing, wearing sterile gowns and gloves

are included. These areas are planned to meet VEDEK’s criteria for pre-clinical preparation and infection control.

4. Contribution in Educational and Accreditation Aspects

The Clinical Skills Laboratory;

  • Supports students to gain competencies before transitioning to live animals,
  • Enhances patient safety and quality of practice in clinical rotations,
  • Provides standardized and measurable skill training under faculty supervision,
  • Supports educational processes in accordance with animal welfare and ethical principles

.

The existing infrastructure is compatible with EAEVE’s “Facilities, Equipment and Clinical Training” standards and VEDEK’s “Practical Training, Clinical Competence, and Graduate Competence” criteria, directly contributing to our faculty's sustainable quality assurance and accreditation goals.
